Charmless B Decays to η ′ and η Hai

چکیده
Exclusive charmless B decays to η and η are studied in the standard effective Hamiltonian approach. The effective coefficients that take into account nonfactorizable effects in external and internal W -emission amplitudes are fixed by experiment. Factorization is applied to the matrix elements of QCD, electroweak penguin operators and next-to-leading corrections to penguin Wilson coefficients, which are renormalization-scheme dependent, are included, but the resultant amplitude is renormalization-scheme and -scale independent. We show that the unexpectedly large branching ratio of B → ηK measured by CLEO can be explained by the Cabibbo-allowed internal W emission process b → cc̄s followed by a conversion of the cc̄ pair into the η via gluon exchanges characterized by a decay constant of order −50 MeV. Implications are discussed. The mechanism of the transition cc̄ → η, if correct, will enhance the decay rates of B → ηK by more than an order of magnitude. However, it plays only a minor role to the rare decays B → η(η)π(ρ). The predicted branching ratio of B → ηπ for positive ρ is marginally ruled out by experiment, indicating that the favored Wolfenstein parameter ρ is negative.

Exclusive charmless Bs hadronic decays into η ′ and η
Exclusive charmless B s hadronic decays into η ′ and η Using the next-to-leading order QCD-corrected effective Hamiltonian, charmless exclusive nonleptonic decays of the Bs meson into η or η ′ are calculated within the generalized factorization approach. Nonfactorizable contributions are included with two different treatments. Some subtleties involved are discussed.

Moreover, CLEO has improved upper limits for many other channels. Therefore, it is a field whose time has finally arrived. On the theoretical aspect, there are two important issues to be addressed: (i) the renormalization scheme and scale dependence of hadronic matrix elements, and (ii) nonfactorizable effects in charmless B decays. A fascinating progress in dealing with the above-mentioned the...
متن کاملFirst observation of five charmless hadronic B decays
There has been much progress in measurements of charmless hadronic B decays during 1997. Building on the previous indications from CLEO and LEP, CLEO now has clear signals in five exclusive final states: K + π − , K 0 π + , η ′ K + , η ′ K 0 , and ωK +. The branching fractions for the η ′ K modes are several times larger than the others. A similar strikingly large signal has been seen in the in...

New data from the BaBar, Belle, and CLEO Collaborations on B decays to two-body charmless final states are analyzed, with the following consequences: (1) The penguin amplitude which dominates the decay B+ → π+K∗0 has a magnitude similar to that dominating B+ → π+K0. (2) The decay B+ → π+η, a good candidate for observing direct CP violation, should be detectable at present levels of sensitivity....
متن کاملTowards a Theory of Charmless Non-leptonic Two-body B Decays
We address a number of theoretical and phenomenological issues in two-body charmless non-leptonic B decays in the context of a factorization model. A classification of the exclusive decays involving tree and penguin amplitudes is reviewed. The role of QCD anomaly in exclusive decays involving an η or η ′ is elucidated and comparison is made with the existing data. We argue that the factorizatio...
